First Tennessee Foundation donates $15,000 for forklift training
Press release
The First Tennessee Foundation has donated $15,000 for a pilot program at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, bank leaders announced today.
The program will help fund forklift training classes at the Northfield campus in Spring Hill to match skilled workers with employers.
“First Tennessee is proud to support this innovative program that will help develop a skilled workforce and prepare workers for higher paying jobs,” said Scott Walker, president of First Tennessee’s Southern Middle Tennessee market. “This donation from the First Tennessee Foundation will help us continue to build stronger, more vibrant communities in the counties we serve.”
The donation will help fund nearly 20 slots for students seeking training in forklift operation. Those completing the 40-hour classes will receive an industry recognized safety certification and be qualified to enter the workforce immediately after finishing the training.
“We would like to thank the First Tennessee Foundation for joining us in this innovative program that will train workers for some great jobs,” said Jan McKeel, executive director of the South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance. “There is a growing need for forklift operators in our area, but the demand exceeds our pool of qualified applicants. We’re excited about this training program that will develop certified, qualified workers for these new jobs.”
