Man Vandalizes Vehicle After Accepting Ride

A Summertown resident filed a complaint with law enforcement officers on Friday, indicating that, after he had given him a ride, an acquaintance had returned to his home and vandalized his car.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report that the twenty-four year old victim had given a lift to an acquaintance, dropping him off at another residence, then returned to his Brace Loop home.

He said shortly afterwards he heard a ruckus and discovered that the man had returned and was vandalizing his 2011 Nissan Sentra.

The suspect was reportedly “yelling and screaming” at the victim while committing the crime. The victim said he struck the car repeatedly with what appeared to be an axe handle, then stabbed a door of the home with a screw driver.

Deputies report that both tail lights were busted, the driver’s side mirror was broken off, and the suspect had walked on the car. They said the sunroof had been struck but was not damaged.

The victim said that he will pursue prosecution in the case. He estimated damages to total $900.
