Seized, Surplus Firearms Will Provide New Guns For Entire Police Department
Lawrenceburg Now
Firearms that have been seized during the past several years through the Lawrenceburg Police Department will provide the means to outfit the entire department with new guns.
Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council voted Thursday to approve a resolution, declaring some 131 firearms as surplus property. The guns are ones that have been seized through the department during the past thirteen years. “You are declaring them surplus and this is to authorize trading those in for new weapons,” explained City Attorney Alan Betz.
“It was amazing to me,” said council member Ronald Fox. “Chief Judy Moore told us that to declare all these weapons surplus, they had to go back to old cases and document all of these weapons…I think it’s a good deal to be able to trade these in. I think she said they were going to have enough money to buy all the police officers new weapons and have some money left over for some ammunition. I think it’s a good thing.”
