Probation Violation Results In Additional Meth Manufacturing Charges
A violation of a local man’s probation led to new charges against him for manufacturing methamphetamine after lab components were discovered at his Greenwood Road home last week.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown issued a press release Thursday, indicating that the charges had been issued against David Morris Fly, 49, of 225 Greenwood Road.
In January, Fly pled guilty to charges of initiation of the manufacture of meth and was subsequently placed on probation. Sheriff’s department narcotics investigators and the department’s U.S. Marshal Task Force officer joined representatives of the State of Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole in serving an arrest warrant for violation of probation at Fly’s home on Thursday.
According to the press release, Fly granted officers permission to search his property. They report finding, “Approximately twenty fluid ounces of a chemical mixture and ammonia nitrate,” both components associated with the manufacture of meth.
Because of the hazardous nature of the chemicals officers quickly secured the scene and called for assistance in cleanup from the Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force.
Reports show that while searching the premises officers also found three grams of meth along with a glass pipe used to smoke the drug.
Fly was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was jailed on charges of violation of probation, initiation of a process to manufacture meth, promotion of meth manufacturing, and possession of Schedule II narcotics (meth) for the purpose of resale.
Fly was incarcerated under a bond of $100,000. He will be required to answer the violation of probation charge through Lawrence County Circuit Court and the new narcotics charges through General Sessions Court.
