Inmates Report Belongings Stolen While They Were Incarcerated
Lawrenceburg Now
Sheriff’s deputies filed crime reports for two individuals Sunday who said their belongings had been stolen while they had been incarcerated.
A twenty-seven year old female inmate reported that her 2003 Chevrolet Envoy went missing while she had been incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center. She told deputies that her mother had informed her about the crime during visitation.
The victim said that a man she knew had “been allowed to stay at her residence briefly to use narcotics with her,” and that he possibly resided in Lobelville. She said he had stopped by her mother’s home to drop off her purse, tablet, and phone, which she had left inside her vehicle. She told deputies that the man had never been allowed to use her vehicle and that the she had left her key inside her Brush Creek Road home.
Along with the Envoy, valued at approximately $5,000, the victim said that a Rubbermaid tub filled with personal items was missing.
In the second instance, a former inmate stopped by to report that all of his clothing had been stolen while he and his girlfriend were incarcerated.
The victim, age fifty, said that while they were incarcerated, they had allowed a male acquaintance to stay at their home to oversee the property. The female victim said that the man had stopped by to visit her multiple times and each time he had been wearing the victim’s clothes. She said that each time, she instructed the man to stop wearing the victim’s clothing.
Once the female victim was released from custody, she said she returned to their home and made the man move out. Willis said that all of his clothing and shoes were missing. Altogether, he estimated loss to be $5,450.
The cases currently remain under investigation.
