Identity Thief Racks Up $1,300 In Cell Phone Bills

A local resident filed a complaint with police during the weekend, indicating that someone had fraudulently used her identity to rack up hefty outstanding balances with two different cell phone companies, then charged items to her bank account.

The victim reported to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department that she had received a statement from Verizon Wireless indicating that she had an outstanding balance of $422.92.

The victim said that she had opened an account with the company in July, but that she had closed it three days later. She learned that an unidentified person had added three lines to her account before she closed it, then continued to retain cell service.

The victim told officers that she had also received a statement from AT&T indicating that she had an unpaid balance with them totaling $634.97. She told officers that this amount had been accumulated under the same circumstances

In addition, the victim said that someone had made unauthorized charges against her bank account totaling $239.60. Altogether, she said she had experienced losses of $1,297.60 due to the identity thief.

The matter currently remains under investigation through several agencies.
