Prevent prescription drug abuse with October 28 Drug Take-Bake Day
BlueCross Foundation-sponsored Count It! Lock It! Drop It! program hosts drug collection events in Lawrence County
Lawrence County-area residents can join the fight against prescription drug misuse by dropping off unused or expired medications at one of three National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day events Saturday, Oct. 28.
The events aim to provide safe, convenient locations to dispose of opioids and other medications and to raise awareness about the potential risks of abusing prescription drugs.
WHAT: Lawrence County-area residents looking to dispose of unwanted drugs can drop them off as part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 28
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHY: In 2016, a record-setting 1,631 Tennesseans died from prescription pain medication overdose, eight people died in Lawrence County, and according to the Tennessee Department of Health, 7,636,112 opioid prescriptions were written in 2016. Enough opioid prescriptions were written in Lawrence County to give each man, woman and child living in Lawrence County 161 pills of 10mg Hydrocodone.
