Ethridge Early Warning System Set To Go Online October 9

A project long in the making will be completed next week providing greater safety to residents of the Ethridge area during emergency events.

City of Ethridge leaders have worked for several years toward the installation of an early warning system that would alert residents to dangerous weather events and other types of emergencies.

Their efforts led to the city being selected in 2010 as a recipient of a State of Tennessee Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $50,000.

With the bulk of the funding secured, officials with Ethridge Volunteer Fire Department committed to providing the local matching portion of the project.

City Recorder Julie Yokley said the city also hopes to provide greater security for persons residing outside the city limits, including the Amish community. She said that the system has a wide range in order to provide warning to those who might be outdoors.

American Signal Incorporated submitted the winning bid in the project. Yokley said that the company will install two sirens/speakers on Wednesday, October 9.

One will be installed at Accurite on U.S. Highway 43, the other at the Ethridge Civic Club. She asks residents to keep in mind that during the installation process technicians will likely test the sirens periodically throughout the day.

Individuals seeking additional information should contact Ethridge City Hall at 931-829-2150.
