Wednesday Morning Fire

Press release

On September 25th, 2013 at 02:03 a.m. the Lawrenceburg Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 405 Oak Street at the Oak Grove Apartments.  First arriving units reported a two story multiple occupancy structure with flames visible on the north side extending to the second floor.

Reports were received of trapped occupants in two different apartments and a rescue operation was started.  Two persons were removed to safety by firefighters with the use of ground ladders from an upstairs bedroom on the east side of the structure.

As these were being removed, a second rescue team made entry to an upstairs apartment on the south side of the building and removed three children, two of which were dropped down from a balcony to police officers below.

Before fire crews arrived, two occupants removed an elderly female from the downstairs apartment where the fire started and carried her outside.

The elderly female was transported to the hospital by the Lawrence County Ambulance Service for treatment of smoke inhalation.  One other occupant was treated on scene by medical personnel for smoke inhalation.

The successful efforts of all involved would not have been possible had it not been for the actions of a nine year boy that was staying with the elderly female the night of the fire and awoke to screams by the lady and alerted all the occupants to the fire.

The Southern Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting all affected occupants and provided food and drinks to emergency personnel and occupants after the fire was brought under control.
