Arrest Made After Residents Report Driver Brandishing Firearm

A Lawrenceburg man was arrested last week after authorities received reports that he was driving through a neighborhood, brandishing a firearm.

Ricky Gene Burks, age 38, of 432 Third Street was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault Thursday.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were dispatched to First Street around 4:30 p.m. Residents reported that a man was waving a pistol out of a truck window while driving along the street.

Officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle, described as a brown Ford Ranger that had been lowered to the ground. The victims were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect.

Shortly afterwards an officer reported spotting the suspect truck, traveling northbound on North Military Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted and when officers questioned Burks about the incident, he reportedly admitted he had been driving in that area, but denied having brandished a weapon. The victims positively identified Burks as the suspect.

Burks denied permission for officers to conduct a search of his truck. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.

During an inventory subsequent to having Burks’ truck towed, officers report they could clearly see the barrel of a pistol beneath the passenger side seat. They were able to identify it as a 1088 BB pistol and it was seized into evidence.

Burks has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on November 7, 2013.
