Numerous Firearms Stolen From Leoma Homes

Law enforcement officials are looking into two cases reported during the week in which the victim reported several firearms had been stolen.

On Monday Leoma residents reported burglars had pushed in a front window, then removed a screen in order to gain access to the interior of their Old Florence Road home.

Taken were a .22 caliber rifle, two .22 caliber handguns, and a 9 mm pistol. Total loss was estimated to be $2,500.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to investigate the burglary of a home on Old Florence Pulaski Road, Leoma, on Wednesday.

There, the owner and his nephew reported someone had stolen numerous weapons, including eight firearms and two bows. Medications were also listed as stolen.

The resident reported finding the front door standing open with a glass pane busted out. Neighbors reported hearing a vehicle near the home around 10:00 that morning.

Deputies noted that two pricey shotguns that were lying in plain sight in the living room were left undisturbed, and that a large amount of money had been left untouched in a dresser drawer. Together the men experienced a loss totaling more than $8,000.

Investigation into both crimes is continuing currently through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigation is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-3626.
