Man Apprehended After Fleeing From Police Officers

A Long Branch Road resident was arrested Saturday night after reportedly fleeing from police officers and attempting to hide behind a local business.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report attempting to make a traffic stop around 8:00 p.m. after noticing two vehicles that were driving in a reckless manner along North Locust Avenue.

While one of the vehicles was quickly stopped, officers report that the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado began to flee.

Officers followed the vehicle through the parking lot at Walmart. They report that he drove through the lot, “with a high disregard for the vehicles and pedestrians he passed.” They lost sight of the truck briefly when the driver turned toward Springer Road, but located it at a loading dock behind the business.

The driver, Richard Edward Ritchie, 31, was taken into custody. Officers report finding an open container of beer inside his vehicle, and indicate that he appeared to be intoxicated.

Ritchie was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated on charges of public intoxication, evading arrest and reckless driving.

Bond was set at $11,000. He is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on October 3, 2013.
