Resident Paid With Phony Money

A Lawrenceburg Police Officer reports he was stopped Monday afternoon by a resident who was upset to find the money with which she had been paid for performing work, was fake.

Reports filed through the department show that the incident was reported around 4:15 p.m. as the officer was on patrol along North Locust Avenue.

The victim, age 29, flagged down the officer as he passed Rick’s Barbecue and Country Store. She reported that she had gone inside to purchase some items. When she attempted to pay for them, however, the clerk refused to accept the $20 bill she offered. The clerk informed the victim that her bill was a fake. After checking the bill deputy concurred.

According to the victim’s statement, she had performed some work for a friend who had paid her with the $20 bill. When she checked with the friend, he reported he had obtained change for a $100 bill at the Rick’s location on Highway 43 South. He indicated that he must have been handed the bill at that time.

The matter remains under investigation at the current time through detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the department at 762-2276.
