Man Head-Butts Police Car After Assaulting Ex

A Pulaski man was jailed locally Monday evening after he allegedly assaulted his ex-wife at her First Street home, then head-butted a police car while being arrested.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were initially dispatched to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital after the victim, age 36, was brought in for medical attention. Officers report that her face, neck and chest were covered with blood and that she had sustained an approximate one-inch gash adjacent to her left eyebrow.

The victim told officers that her ex-husband had come to her home earlier to pick up some of his belongings. In the process, she reports that he became angry and began striking her about the face with his hand. She indicated she was uncertain whether he was holding anything in his hand at the time.

The couple’s son told officers that when his father had pulled into the driveway he had grabbed a rifle or shotgun from the gun rack mounted onto the back glass of his truck, but that his girlfriend had convinced him to return it to the rack.

Warrants were quickly obtained against the man, charging him with the crime of assault. Officers then began making their way to a Second Street home to search for the suspect. They report passing him in his truck along First Avenue. They followed and initiated a traffic stop at Crockett Motel.

During the stop, officers report the man became extremely agitated and angry, cursing and yelling continuously. As he was being handcuffed, they indicate he “head-butted” a patrol car, causing a dent to the hood.

Several items were seized from inside the suspect’s vehicle including a loaded .22 caliber pistol, machete and two knives.

James McKinnley Johnson, 38, of 3525 Agnew Road, Pulaski, was then arrested on charges of aggravated domestic assault, unlawful possession/carrying of a weapon, and vandalism and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Johnson was booked at the facility, however reports show that as Corrections Officers were placing him inside a cell he spit into their faces resulting in additional charges.

Johnson is scheduled to answer the charges against him through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Thursday, October 1, 2009.
