Car Stolen While Owner Jailed For Murder

The son of a Lawrenceburg man, jailed for murder in connection with the death of his wife, reported Monday that someone had stolen his father’s car while he was incarcerated.

The complainant reported the theft to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies around 11:30 a.m. He stated that he had stopped by his father’s Treetop Trail home to check on his belongings when he discovered the 1999 Plymouth Breeze was nowhere to be found.

The son reported he had last seen the car around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27; the day his father, Danny Oneal Owens, 58, was arrested. Owens was booked through the Lawrence County Jail that evening on charges of first degree murder in the February 8, 2009 death of Vicki Owens, 57.

The son stated that the keys had been left beneath a mat inside the car.

Deputies indicated that no suspects had been identified when reports were filed. The case remains under investigation, however, through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
