Arkansas Sex Offender Arrested While Residing With Children

A convicted sex offender from Arkansas was arrested by local authorities Wednesday after he was found to be living in a household that included children.

A Lawrenceburg Police officer on patrol received a tip about the matter around 11:00 a.m. They spoke with the manager of the apartment complex who said that forty-year-old John William Sarrels had been living there for a few weeks. She told officers that she had not known that he was a sex offender.

Officers contacted the sex offender registry unit of the Arkansas Crime Information Center and learned that Sarrels had been in violation of that state’s sex offender registry law since 2008.

Officers confronted Sarrels at the apartment and he was arrested for failing to comply with the state sex offender registry law.  He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on October 3, 2013.
