Summertown Man Files Animal Cruelty Complaint

A Summertown man has reported to law enforcement officials that someone shot his dog while it was penned in his back yard.

Robert Allen Hartsfield reported the incident through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. He told deputies that he discovered that his American Bull Dog had two wounds to the chest, which he believes to be gunshot wounds.

The deputy noted that the dog did, in fact, have wounds that could have been bullet holes, but reports that Hartsfield had not taken the dog to a veterinarian to verify it. To-date, Hartsfield reported, he has spent some twenty dollars on medication for the dog.

Hartsfield’s mother told deputies that she had heard someone shooting behind the residence around 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23.

The incident remains under investigation at the current time.
