Prescription Forgery Investigation Launched

Lawrenceburg authorities have launched an investigation after a local pharmacist reported he had been asked to fill a forged prescription.

The investigation was initiated on Monday through the Lawrenceburg Police Department. Officers were summoned to Liberty Drug Store at 1400 North Locust Avenue. There, officials reported that the prescription had been presented the previous Friday.

Officials reported that a female subject had called, indicating she would send someone to have her prescription filled due to the fact that she was recovering from surgery. Within a short time, they indicate that a white male subject came in, requesting that they fill the prescription for 120, ten milligram Lortab pills.

When the pharmacist called the Mt. Pleasant physician at Family Health Group, he was unable to make contact with anyone. He reports that the man then stated that he would return to pick up the medication at a later time, then left the premises. Since that time, he says, no one has inquired about the prescription.

On Monday, store officials report that they received a call from the clinic, confirming that the prescription was, in fact, a forgery. They indicated that the fake prescription had apparently been written on a prescription pad stolen from the clinic.

The pharmacy has received a call from Giles County authorities regarding the individual for whom the prescription was written. Similar incidents have also been reported in that county.

Investigation into the matter is continuing at this time through the Lawrenceburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
