Boyfriend Is Charged With Kidnapping After Stabbing Girlfriend With Screwdriver

A Flatwoods Road man was arrested on numerous charges, including kidnapping, Tuesday after allegedly holding his girlfriend against her will, choking her repeatedly, and stabbing her with a screwdriver.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department show that deputies were dispatched to the 228 Flatwoods Road home of thirty-five year old Brandon Lee Clifton.

When they arrived, deputies report that the female victim, age 33, was standing on the front porch. She told them that her boyfriend had locked her out of their home.

The victim told deputies that the assault had begun at around 11:00 Monday morning when Clifton had begun choking her on the bed. She said that another man who was at the home intervened, pulling him off of her.

According to the victim a short time later Clifton began yelling that he was going to kill her, then stabbed her in the stomach with a screwdriver.

She said in subsequent episodes he choked her, once to the point that she lost consciousness. She said when she awakened she was lying on the floor.

The victim reported that Clifton would not allow her to leave their home throughout the night. She said that she tried to leave four or five times, but that each time he would place his arm around her neck and begin to choke her again.

She said that he locked her inside and kept the keys away from her. Although she attempted to exit through a bedroom window, she said she was not allowed to do so.

At around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, she said that Clifton began to chase her through the residence, wielding a pair of scissors and threatening to kill her. She said she was able to grab the keys and escape around thirty minutes later when he took off his pants and went into the bathroom.

Clifton was placed under arrest at the scene on charges that include three counts of aggravated domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported for incarceration at the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident.
