Authorities Examine Allegations Of Abandoned Animal
Local law enforcement agents were summoned to initiate an investigation Wednesday when a Summertown resident reported a neighbor had moved more than a month before, abandoning her dog.
The complainant reported that the dog had been left behind when the perpetrator had moved from her former residence on Dugout Road. She told authorities that she had contacted the Lawrence County Humane Society in order seek assistance for the animal. Officials with society had recommended that she first file a police report in order to document the crime.
The case remains under investigation as detectives determine whether charges of animal cruelty will be filed against the owner. Authorities indicate that the dog is being cared for.
