Arrest Arises From Church Squabble

Domestic assault charges were placed against a Lawrenceburg man Sunday afternoon in the wake of an argument that erupted between he and his wife while they were at church.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned by neighbors to intervene after they noticed the couple engaged in a physical confrontation in the driveway of their home.

When they arrived on the scene, officers report that the husband was standing in his yard, while the wife was across the street in a neighbor’s yard, crying. Officers noted that she had blood on both hands and large knot on her leg.

Reports indicate that the couple had become involved in an argument while at church, and the argument had continued throughout the ride home. The victim indicated she did not wish to exit the car because she knew the dispute would continue, therefore when her husband told her to get out of the car, she refused.

The woman was sitting in the couple’s car with their two-month-old son beside them. She indicates that her husband began kicking her, causing the injury to her leg. He then allegedly began pull her from the vehicle. Neighbors reported seeing him reach into the vehicle and grab her by the neck, causing scratches to her neck.

At some point, the victim reported, she grabbed the baby and ran to the neighbor’s house for help.

Reports show that the husband admitted assaulting his wife “because she had refused to exit the car when he told her to .”

As a result the husband, Jeffrey Dale Hodge, 27, was placed under arrest on charges of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
