Charges Issued Against Woman Who Reported Sword Assault

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department obtained warrants against a local woman who reported that her husband had assaulted her while wielding a sword.

Shortly before midnight Sunday the woman called for assistance, reporting that she had sustained a head wound and required medical attention. Deputies were dispatched to the Prokesh Road home in Leoma, as were ambulance personnel.

Upon their arrival the caller's husband told deputies that his wife had been intoxicated and fled on foot when they arrived. He said that he had discovered that she had been unfaithful and an argument had ensued.

He told officers that his wife had become violent, attempting to grab his necklace. He said that she broke the necklace and left behind visible scratches.

The husband reported that his wife had thrown a porcelain candleholder at him, breaking it, and that she had grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened him with it.

He said he was able to wrestle the knife away from her.  In retaliation, he said she stated that she was, "Going to call the police to get him arrested."

At the time reports were filed deputies had been unable to locate the woman, identified as twenty-nine year old Jennifer Faye Vazquez.

Deputies did obtain warrants charging her with the crimes of aggravated domestic assault, domestic vandalism, and filing a false police report.
