Elderly Resident Scammed With Work Offer

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department late last week show that an elderly resident of Admiral Circle was targeted by a scam artist who helped himself to her wallet.

Reports show that the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Friday. A man reportedly approached the home of an eighty-six-year-old woman, asking to perform work on her property. The woman reportedly allowed the man into her home. While talking with her, he asked her for something in another room.

After the man had left, the resident discovered that he had apparently stolen her wallet while she was out of the room. The wallet contained the woman’s driver license, social security card, insurance cards, a Vis card, and approximately $100 in cash.

The complainant informed officers that the resident suffers from mild dementia and was unclear as to most of the details.

The matter remains under investigation at the current time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding the incident is urged to contact the department at 762-2276.
