Resident’s Debit Card Number Used For Internet Purchases
Local law enforcement authorities launched an investigation Wednesday after a Summertown woman reported her debit card number had been used to make fraudulent purchases via the internet.
The victim, age 45, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that the purchases were made between August 4 and August 18.
According to the victim the culprit had somehow obtained her debit card number and made purchases from the following internet companies: boxkits.com, newage.com, J.P. Morgan Chase, flowers.com, Fox Racing, and Journey Shoes. Total loss as a result of the crime was estimated to be in excess of $700.
The matter currently remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
