Intruder Found Taking Photos At Leoma Elementary

A witness reported seeing a suspicious character taking photos at an area elementary school late last week.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Friday indicate that Kathy Burns, Assistant Principal of South Lawrence Elementary School in Loretto, was at Leoma Elementary School when she noticed the suspicious person on the premises around 11:10 a.m.

Burns quickly notified Leoma Elementary Assistant Principal Larry Davis about the situation, and Davis immediately summoned law enforcement officials to initiate an investigation.

Reports indicate that Burns saw an individual driving a large, dark color SUV parked on the north side of the school, near the cafeteria and breezeway. The individual, she reported, was taking pictures. Burns was able to obtain a license plate number before the driver fled from the premises, heading south on U.S. Highway 43.

At the present time, detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are continuing their investigation into the matter.
