Authorities Work To Determine Whether Incidents Are Connected

Authorities are currently working to determine whether two incidents in which gunshots were fired overnight Sunday, might be related.

In one incident, deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report that Brock’s Market owner Vance Brock reported Sunday, discovering a firearm had been fired at the business overnight.
Brock indicated that around 8:00 a.m. he discovered someone had used a firearm to shoot through the window at the front of the business.

The other incident was reported around midnight Sunday at a home on CC Road. The victim told deputies that he had been watching television when he heard what sounded like “a .22 shot or fireworks.” He said he then heard a “ding – as if the round had hit something.” The victim stated that he had heard the shot above the sound of his television set and two window air conditioning units. Deputies report finding a hole in the siding on the outside of the home.

The man, whose wife is employed at Brock’s Market, told deputies that he grabbed his car keys and ran into the yard. He indicated he saw a set of brake lights at the roadway, just west of his residence. He got into his own vehicle and followed the automobile to a nearby driveway that services four different homes. He told deputies that he saw the vehicle stop there, but was uncertain at which house.

Deputies report they were able to speak with nearby residents regarding the shooting. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are currently working to sort through the case.
