Youngsters Attacked By Neighbor’s Dog

A local resident called law enforcement officers to his home Friday after his neighbor’s dog reportedly attacked two children in his yard.

The complaint was filed by a resident of 3203 Granddaddy Road. He reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that his niece, age 8, and nephew, age 7, were playing in his yard when they were approached by his neighbor’s dog.

He said that the dog, “Knocked his niece down and had her head in his mouth.” He told deputies that when he tried to scare the dog away he grabbed his nephew’s arm.

The complainant reported that he had taken the dog back to his pen, but that it became aggressive toward him when he attempted to put him inside. He said that the individual to whom the dog belongs does not reside at the property where the dog is kept.

The reporting deputy indicates that the dog was running about the yard while he was taking the report. He said that the dog went into his pen when told to do so, but that when he attempted to close the latch he became aggressive, growling, barking and trying to bite his hand.

The incident currently remains under investigation.
