Man Bitten After Rescuing His Pet

A Leoma man reported to authorities Tuesday that he was bitten by a neighbor’s dog after rescuing his own pet from its clenched jaw.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched on the vicious dog call to 2231 Fall River Road shortly before noon. The resident reported he had let his small house dog out earlier. When he went outside, he said he found that a neighbor’s bulldog had the small dog in his mouth and was shaking it about.

The resident reported that he intervened in an attempt to rescue his pet, and the bulldog turned and bit him on the right thigh. The bite did not break the skin, reports show.

At that point the resident reports he went back inside his home to retrieve a weapon with which to defend himself and his dog. When he returned, however, he found that the dog had left his property.

The resident was able to describe the house where the dog belonged. Deputies made their way there and were able to verify that was where the dog lived. They were, however, unable to make contact with the owner at that time.
