Fire Marshall Summoned To Assist In Investigation Into Daycare FireIt's Great To Be A Kid Daycare

Authorities with the State Fire Marshall’s Office have been called upon to join an investigation into the source of a fire that destroyed a Lawrenceburg daycare center late Sunday.

The fire was first detected by a Lawrenceburg Police Department on routine patrol in the vicinity of First Avenue/First Street. The officer reported noticing a large amount of smoke billowing from the upper floor of Its Great To Be A Kid Preschool, located at 410 First Avenue. At that time, the officer reports there were no visible flames.

Emergency personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene and firefighters with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department worked diligently to extinguish the flames. Reports indicate that losses as a result of the fire are estimated at $70,000.

A report filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department stated, “Due to recent problems at the business and other concerns Criminal Investigation Division and Investigator Shayne Adams (Lawrenceburg Fire Department) were contacted.”

A neighbor residing at 412 First Avenue told officers that she had seen a white male moving some furniture out of a second story room at the building sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. When they asked the former resident about moving, however, she told them she had moved out the day before and “hadn’t been back.”

Adams said that a representative of the Fire Marshall’s Office was slated to be in Lawrenceburg on Tuesday in order to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Additional information may become available at a later time.
