Commissioners Adopt Beer Regulations To Comply With State

Lawrenceburg leaders approved this week an ordinance that will bring the city’s beer sale guidelines into compliance with recently-adopted state law.

Ordinance 1027 was approved on first reading by members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners Thursday evening. The ordinance, Executive Secretary to the Mayor Joyce DiCappo explained in the absence of City Attorney Alan Betz, will bring the city into compliance with a new state law known as the Responsible Vendors Act.

The act, she explained, encourages beer vendors to provide training for their employees. Vendors who follow the state guidelines stringently, providing extra training, etc., would receive more leniency, should a violation be committed by an employee. The law provides reductions in fines and other allowances for such vendors.

DiCappo explained, “It’s the state’s effort to get the owners to train their employees properly.”

The change affects only the beer ordinance, not the city’s liquor ordinance.

The ordinance was adopted at the recommendation of the Municipal Technical Advisory Service.
