Arrestee Charged For Having Marijuana At Jail

A man taken into custody by local law enforcement officers Monday garnered additional charges when they discovered he had marijuana on his person while at the jail.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report taking James Patrick Kelley, age 30, of 1039 Fullers Chapel Road, Leoma, into custody at 4:22 p.m. while he was at 576 Revilo Road.

Kelley, they report, was arrested on multiple warrants, including one issued through Lawrence County Circuit Court for violation of probation, one issued through Giles County for violation of probation, and four issued through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on charges of domestic assault, domestic vandalism, theft of property and harassment.

When they arrived at the jail, deputies report that Kelley dropped two cigarette packs. They indicate that one contained cigarettes only while the other contained four marijuana roaches. As a result, Kelley was additionally charged with simple possession of marijuana.

Kelley is scheduled to answer the circuit court charge on August 19 and the remaining local charges through general sessions court on September 13, 2010.
