Authorities Investigate String Of Thefts

Law enforcement officials are investigating a string of thefts that were reported in Southern Lawrence throughout the weekend.

The first theft was reported Friday by a resident of Rascaltown Road in Loretto. He told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that a red and gray, 27 inch cut, Murray push mower was missing from his front porch. The mower was valued at $200.

The second such report was registered by a resident of U.S. Highway 43 South in Leoma. He told sheriff’s deputies that someone had stolen a 2005 Cub Cadet riding mower from his carport overnight Friday. The mower was yellow and white in color with a 42 inch cut. Loss was estimated to total $1,800.

Around 9:00 a.m. Saturday deputies were summoned back to Leoma, to a home on Rabbit Trail Road. There, the resident reported that a 5’ x 8’ single axle, utility trailer had been stolen from beneath his carport. The trailer reportedly had a wooden floor and sideboards with white buggy wheels. It was valued at $650.

A second trailer was reported from a Shannon Road, Leoma home around 10:30 that same morning. There, the resident reported a red, 5’ x 8’ metal trailer with a mesh floor had been stolen from his home. The trailer had blue paint on the underside and the tongue had been broken off, then welded back on. The owner told deputies that the individual who took it first unloaded two concrete culverts before stealing the trailer. Loss was estimated to be $650.

Deputies returned to Leoma around 9:00 p.m. Saturday when a resident of U.S. Highway 43 South reported his 1996 Polaris Trail Boss 300 ATV had been stolen from where he stored it at the rear of his house. The four wheeler is described as blue with a gray seat with damage to a rear fender. Authorities estimated loss to be $1,500.

These and other similar cases currently remain under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information relevant to these investigations is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
