Ethridge Commission Names New City Manager

During the panel’s regular monthly business meeting Monday afternoon, members of the Ethridge City Commission voted to fill the vacant position of City Manager.

In a 2-1 vote, members named former reserve police officer for that city, Mike Mashburn to the post, which had been vacant since June. Mashburn was selected from among ten applicants. The position, which is part time, carries a salary of $500 per month.

The city manager post has been vacant since the board’s June 20 meeting, when members cleaned house, terminating the employment of former City Manager Byron Shelton and eliminating three part time clerical positions.

The commission has not yet filled the office of police chief, left vacant since the retirement of former Chief E.O. Shelton. Willie Norwood has since served as Acting Chief, joined on the force by three part time officers. Other city employees include Street Department employee Kevin Clanton and City Recorder Julie Yokley.
