Suspect Identified In Awning Theft

A man who went to collect an awning at a Revilo church building late last week only to find it missing, investigated enough to offer law enforcement officials the identity of the alleged culprit.

The complainant reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies around 6:00 p.m. Friday that he made his way to a lot adjacent to Bethel Church on Revilo Road to collect the awning earlier in the day. The awning, however, was nowhere to be found.

The complainant told deputies he had “asked around” and discovered the awning had been picked up by a resident of Leoma’s Idaho Road a week before. According to the complainant, he confronted the man about taking the awning and he confessed to doing so. The complainant told deputies he had told the man he would have to pay him for the awning (valued at $2,000) by 4:00 p.m. that day, but that the man failed to do so.

The complainant was advised by deputies how to obtain a criminal summons against the man.

Investigation in the matter is on-going at the present time.
