Fraud Complaints Eyed By Authorities

Law enforcement officials are investigating two separate fraud incidents that have resulted in thousands in losses for local victims.

A resident of Glendale Road, Loretto reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies Friday that someone had stolen funds from her bank account.

The victim told deputies she had been contacted by her bank regarding unusual deductions from her account. Investigation revealed someone had accessed her account without permission and made some $1,737 in purchases.

The victim reported she was the only person with access to her account information and her debit card has not been out of her possession.

On Saturday, a resident of North Locust Avenue reported to Lawrenceburg Police Officers that someone had illegally removed $12,000 from his bank account. He reported that checks were forged against his account between May and August of this year.

The victim pointed out that he had been tending to his terminally ill mother during this period and had not noticed the withdrawals until recently. He indicated he did wish to prosecute the perpetrator on charges of theft over $10,000 and forgery. A suspect has been named in the matter.

Investigation into both crimes is on-going at the present time.
