Giles Woman Arrested In Lawrence County For Tenn-Care Fraud

Officials with the Tennessee Office of Inspector General have announced yet another instance of TennCare fraud.
Thirty-two year old Angel M. Tomerlin of Prospect has been indicted through Lawrence County on accusations that she used her TennCare benefits to pay for fraudulent prescriptions.
According to a press release issued through the Inspector General’s Office Tomerlin surrendered herself on Friday at the Lawrence County Jail.
Tomerlin is accused of filling a forged prescription for the painkiller Hydrocodone and using TennCare to pay for the prescription. She’s also accused of doing the same to obtain a brand version of the drug phenergan, which is used to counteract nausea.
“We are winning the war against TennCare fraud, and the front line of that battle is prescription drug fraud,” Inspector General Deborah Faulkner said. “We will vigorously prosecute people accused of committing all TennCare fraud as well as those who attempt to abuse the program.”
TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a penalty of up to two years imprisonment. District Attorney General Mike Bottoms is prosecuting the case.

Anyone who suspects TennCare fraud should telephone 1-800-433-3982, toll-free, to report the incident.
