Lawrenceburg Sacred Heart To Host Annual Labor Day Festival

You can add a little extra enjoyment to your Labor Day weekend with a visit to the 74th annual Lawrenceburg Sacred Heart School Festival on Monday, September 3.

It will not be difficult to guess what is cooking as the aroma of mouth-watering BBQ blankets the Sacred Heart area. Parish members begin cooking their famous BBQ over an open pit late Saturday – continuing until Monday morning so the secret recipe sauce can be added in time for the BBQ and fried chicken meal, complete with home-grown vegetables, iced tea and “out of this world” homemade deserts. The meal will be served from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. in air-conditioned comfort. BBQ will be available for sale by the pound beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner of the “Cutest Baby Contest”during the dinner. Entries should be submitted to Rosemary Harris at Sacred Heart School by the August 31 deadline. Photos should be 8x10s of babies age birth through twelve months. There is an entry fee of $10.00. Votes will be aken throughout the day, then tabulated during the evening.

7:00 a.m. – The “White Elephant Sale” will get underway as well as a “Bake Sale & Coffee” booth. They will remain open until all items have been sold – which does not take long, considering Sacred Heart’s reputation for the very best cake, pies, cookies and breads as well as jams and jellies.

8:00 a.m. – The 5K and One Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin, winding through the streets of historic Lawrenceburg and finishing at the church. Entry forms are available at the school or from Dr. Scott Benefield at Crockett Kids Pediatrics (762-3341). Delicious post race food, friendly folks along the way, prizes, and great T-shirts make this run a must.

   10:00 a.m. – Horseshoe Tournament gets underway.

12:00 p.m. – Noon is the magic hour when most activities will get underway. The Hamburger Hut will open for lunch, featuring hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, as well as ice cream, popcorn and shaved ice. Other noontime activities include the opening of the Kiddie Kars, putt-putt golf, basketball and baseball throws, and many other games and activities.

1:00 p.m. – One of the most exciting events, the live auction, begins. In past years participants have walked away with many “one of a kind” items donated by local businesses, industries, Country Music artists, and tickets to area college and professional sporting events and shows.

5:00 to 8:00 p.m. – Following the auction, a parish-wide Karaoke will take place. Also, attendees will participate in selecting the winner of the “Womanless Beauty Pageant.”
