Director Of Schools Addresses Soaring Temps

Lawrence County Director of Schools Dr. Bill Heath issued a press release Monday regarding excessively high temperatures and how they may affect various school-related activities.

“Due to potential health risks attributable to current heat temperatures,” Heath explained, “bus riders of the Lawrence County School System, including students and adults, will be permitted to have bottled water while en route to and from school. Drinks are limited to water in plastic containers.”

Heath continued, “Additionally, all prolonged outside physical activities, such as football and/or band practice, are to be scheduled after 7:00 p.m. Other physical activities conducted during the school day should be monitored, with any needed adjustments in scheduling left to the principal’s discretion.”

Heath concluded, “This directive shall remain in effect until further advised from the office of the Director of Schools.”
