Authorities Work To Identify Mailbox Vandals

Law enforcement officials continue their efforts to identify vandals who damaged or destroyed some forty mailboxes in eastern Lawrence County late last week.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Friday show that the residents discovered the vandalisms early Friday morning.

Shortly before 5:00 a.m., deputies report they began receiving summons to numerous homes along Fall River, Freeman Hill, Concord, and Newton Roads. Sometime during the early morning hours, residents reported that vandals had targeted the mailboxes. Deputies reported that no eyewitnesses had come forward at the time reports were filed.

Damages were estimated to total some $800.

All of the cases currently remain under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information that might assist in the investigations is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
