Summertown Man Incarcerated On Attempted Murder Charges

A Summertown man was arrested by Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies early Saturday morning after allegedly firing shots at his former girlfriend.

Police reports show that Christopher Daniel Lanier, age 23, of 25 Black Jack Court, Summertown, was taken to the Lawrence County Detention Center shortly before 3:00 a.m.

Deputies were called to 3636 Buffalo Road where the resident, age 32, reported that she had been receiving calls from Lanier who was interested in re-establishing their relationship.

When she told him she was not interested he reportedly told her he would be at her residence in fifteen minutes and that he, “Would take care of her.”

The victim told deputies that around fifteen minutes later she and a friend were on the back porch smoking when they heard multiple shots coming from a field adjacent to the home. She said that a vehicle that was in the driveway just a few feet away was hit, damaging the windshield and the driver side.

Deputies conducted a search of the area, but report they were unable to locate a suspect. They did find footprint in the yard, leading into the field. They were able to contact Lanier by phone. He told deputies that he was at his home at that time.

Dispatchers told deputies that they received a call from Lanier around fifteen minutes later saying that he was now at home, should they wish to speak with him.

Deputies report speaking with Lanier at his home a short time later. He reportedly told them that he had been at home all night and had not spoken with the victim.

While deputies were in the driveway, they report that a man exited from Lanier’s home. He told them that Lanier had called him earlier seeking his assistance.

Lanier allegedly told him that several individuals had attempted to rob him while standing on his front porch, but that he was able to get away. Lanier said that he knew where they subjects were and asked that the friend take him there so that he, “Could take care of the problem.”

The friend reported that Lanier had gone into his house and retrieved a shotgun and that he then transported him to a location on Birdy Road. He said Lanier called him around twenty minutes later, asking that he pick him up at the same location.

He told deputies that they drove to the home of Lanier’s father to drop off the shotgun, and that he then took him home. He said that Lanier told him that, “If anyone asks they had been at his residence all night.”

Deputies obtained permission to conduct a search of the father’s property, but report they were unable to locate the shotgun at that time.

As a result of the investigation Lanier was incarcerated on two counts of attempted first degree murder, criminal trespassing and vandalism over $1,000. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 17, 2013.
