More Fans Needed For Elderly And Shut-Ins

Although several local residents have donated fans to assist local elderly and shut-in residents through the excessive heat we have been experiencing, more donations are needed.

The Santa for Seniors organization has partnered with local concerned residents in an effort to provide some type of relief from the recent extreme temperatures. While the heat has resulted in great discomfort for most, to some it poses a serious health risk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the elderly, the very young, and people with mental illness and chronic diseases are at greatest risk.

With these factors in mind and no end yet in sight for the end of these extreme temperatures, a plea has been issued for the donation of fans, air conditioners, and funds to help with electric bills for these at-risk individuals.

We implore those who have a fan that is not used, or those who would like to donate a new one, to drop it off during business hours at WLX radio station, 1212 North Locust Avenue. (Air conditioners will also be accepted, however if they are very large please call and make arrangements for pickup.) Volunteers will then distribute the fans to those at great risk. Funds to assist with the payment of electric bills will also be accepted.

For additional information you may call:  629-5927, 629-0240, or 629-2181. (Please do not call the radio station!!)
