Woman Assaulted After Visiting Park

A woman from Lexington, Tennessee called to report to local law enforcement agents Saturday that her husband had assaulted her during the ride home from a local park.

The forty-nine year old woman spoke with Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies shortly after 2:00 p.m. She reported that she and her husband, age 56, had driven through David Crockett State Park that morning while sightseeing. She told deputies that her husband “started getting ill towards her for no apparent reason.”

The victim said that at around 10:15 they pulled out of the park, heading westbound on East Gaines Street. After around ten minutes, she said her husband “knocked the gear shifter out of gear and smacked her in the nose.” She said that immediately afterwards he asked that she let him out of the car so that he could hitchhike home, but that she refused to do so.

The victim told deputies that her husband had calmed down during the drive to Lexington. After they got home she said she contacted the Lexington Police Department to file a report, but that she was advised that she would need to file the complaint through Lawrence County, where the incident occurred.
