Crowder Field Paving Project Halfway Complete

Lawrenceburg Street Department Director Jerry Smith reported to city leaders Thursday that this season’s paving project in the Crowder Field area is halfway complete.

Smith told members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning that paving has been completed along First, Second and Third Streets.

The project, which got underway in the latter part of July, required that overhanging trees first be trimmed. Once that was completed contracted workers were able to mill the asphalt so that the new layer could be laid at the correct level. Smith told council members that they finished laying the new asphalt on Wednesday.

The second half of the project, the repaving of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Streets, is expected to begin after Labor Day. Smith said that he is working to coordinate the various phases of the project with Lawrence County Road Superintendent Donnie Joe Brown, whose department is also involved, as well as other city employees and the asphalt provider.

Once the asphalt has cured somewhat on the completed section, Smith said the final step will be to paint stop bars at the ends of the streets.
