Burglars Hit Homes During Church Time

Burglars on the prowl Sunday morning appeared to target homes where the occupants may have been attending church services, making off with medications and other valuables.

Three such incidents were reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Sunday.

A resident of 614 Ethridge Redhill Road told deputies that burglars had targeted his home while he and his wife were at church. He indicated that they had left home at 9:45 a.m., returning around 12:30 p.m. to discover the break-in.

Deputies noted that the thieves had pried open both rear doors to the home, then made entry through a carport door. Every room in the home appeared to have been thoroughly searched, they indicated, however the only items reported missing were the residents’ medications.

A resident of 21 Freedom Hill Road, Ethridge, reported a very similar incident. She indicated that she had left home around 9:40, heading to her church. She returned around 12:20 p.m. to find that her unsecured rear door had been opened. Reports show that the perpetrators had searched throughout the home, taking several items.

Sunday afternoon a Leoma resident reported she had returned to her home to find her medications missing. Deputies report the resident had left around 8:00 a.m. She returned around 4:00 p.m. to make the frightening discovery. The intruder reportedly entered through an unlocked window in a rear bedroom.

At the present time each of the incidents remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding any of the crimes is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
