McEwen Suspect Apprehended In Lawrenceburg

Local law enforcement officials were able to apprehend a woman this weekend, wanted by McEwen Police officers in connection with automobile and credit card thefts.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers were contacted Sunday by McEwen Policeman Eric Jernigan. Jernigan reported that a gold 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, valued at $13,000, had been reported stolen, along with two of the owner’s credit cards. He indicated that purchases had been made at the Lawrenceburg Walmart with one of the stolen cards. He was able to provide a vehicle description, license plate number, as well as the identity of the suspect.

Around 5:00 p.m. an officer reports he was traveling east along Jackson Street when he noticed a vehicle in a driveway that matched the information from the McEwen theft. When he made contact with the resident and asked whether the suspect, Connie Ranya Davis, 34, of McEwen, was inside, the resident indicated that she was.

According to the officer, Davis came outside to speak with him. She denied having stolen the car, stating “they let me borrow it.” When he questioned her about the credit cards she told the officer that there “was one in the vehicle.” She admitted that she had purchased a computer and cigarettes with the card totaling approximately $500, however she told the officer that she had “given them to someone and could not get them back.”

The officer reports that the vehicle was towed to the city impound lot and that Jernigan did obtain warrants, charging Davis with two counts of theft over $500. She was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail to await transfer to McEwen.
