Public Hearing Monday For County Budget

   A public hearing has been scheduled in regards to the Lawrence County Government’s proposed spending plan for the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

   The county, as well as other local government bodies, is late in putting into place the budget for the current fiscal year, which began on July 1, 2007, and ends June 30, 2008.

   The proposed spending plan is based upon the same property tax rate as last year - $3.02 per $100 of assessed value. Of the total, $1.12 will be earmarked for schools, 39¢ for debt service, $1.24 for the County General Fund, and 27¢ for highways.

   The public hearing will be held on Monday, August 20, from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
