Illinois Man Arrested In Recent Burglary Spree

An Illinois resident was taken into custody by local authorities on Monday in connection with a recent burglary spree in the City of Lawrenceburg.

Jordan K. Gravitt, 25, of Wapella, Illinois was arrested by members of the Lawrenceburg Police Department on charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property after authorities found that an item stolen last weekend had been listed for sale on Craig’s List.

Reports from the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers answered a 4:00 a.m. call to an apartment on Fall River Road on Saturday. The resident reported she had gone to bed around 11:00 p.m., then got up around 3:45 a.m. to get ready for work.

She found that someone had broken in through a front window, taking a laptop computer and her purse from a table. Officers obtained footprints, showing that the culprit stood on a cable box and HVAC unit in order to pry open the window.

On Monday, detectives report discovering a laptop listed for sale on Craig’s List that matched the description of the stolen item.

They were able to arrange a meeting at a Lawrenceburg business to “purchase the computer.” They used the opportunity to allow the owner to identify it as her own. Gravitt was arrested at the scene.

Authorities report that Gravitt is currently on probation in Illinois for receiving stolen property. He was booked on the new charges and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center under a bond of $60,000.

Detectives report they were able to collect additional evidence at the Evergreen Street home where Gravitt had been staying. They report that the evidence links him to several other burglaries recently reported in the Lawrenceburg area.

They plan to seek additional charges when evidence is presented to an upcoming session of the Lawrence County Grand Jury.
