Good Samaritans Find They Have Been Robbed

A couple of Good Samaritans reported to police officers Saturday that in repayment for their kindness, their home was robbed.

The residents of Goodhope Road reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that they had both been mowing the lawn shortly before 1:00 p.m. when a couple came to their home on foot, asking for gasoline.

The male resident told deputies that he gave the man a ride to a market to buy gas while his companion stayed in the yard. The female resident reported that she continued to cut grass, but noticed the woman walking away from her home on more than one occasion. The front door of the home had been left unlocked, as the couple was working just outside.

When they arrived back at his home, the male resident reported that the woman walked away from his home, toward the vehicle. He said that he had assumed she had been sitting on the front porch.

Later, the couple discovered that numerous jewelry items were missing from inside their home, along with some cash. Total loss was estimated to be $2,450.00.

Investigation into the crime is continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding the crime is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
