Father Charged With Assaulting Wife And Children

A Summertown man was jailed Friday afternoon on charges that he assaulted his wife and four children when he rammed their vehicle with his own.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reports deputies were summoned to investigate the family dispute around 4:30 p.m.

The mother, age 27, told deputies that she and her husband had been involved in an argument earlier and she had stopped to drop him off at their North Old Military Road home before driving to her parents’ house.

When she refused to allow her husband to go with them, the victim said he got into his car and drove it toward the minivan where she and her children were.

She told deputies she drove toward the roadway. Once she was on the roadway, she said her husband rammed the back of the van. The impact was such, she said, that all four children, ages 6, 6, 4, and 3, were frightened and began to cry.

The mother said that she drove to her parents home with her husband following. He left, she stated, when her parents walked toward the vehicles.

Deputies reported making contact with the man in question. Reports indicate he admitted he had rammed the vehicle. As a result he was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center.

The father, Jacob Daniel McMasters, age 26, was booked on five counts of aggravated domestic assault. An initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court has been scheduled for September 6, 2011.
