Ethridge Resident Charged After Fleeing From Authorities

An Ethridge man garnered multiple charges in the early hours Monday after fleeing from policemen in the wake of a domestic altercation.

William Brett Turner, 41, of 50 Mint Springs Road was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges that include domestic assault, evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless driving, public intoxication and aggravated assault.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reports show that deputies responded to a domestic altercation at the address around 1:00 a.m. When they arrived, deputies report that Turner, who was in the yard, went to his car and fled, impacting a tractor trailer parked along the driveway.

Deputies followed Turner approximately two miles south where he turned into a driveway. When they pulled into the drive, deputies report that Turner drove forward, backed up, then pulled forward again, striking the patrol car four times. His car reportedly became stuck and Turner exited and fled into a wooded area.

Deputies were able to apprehend Turner but report that he made repeated attempts to break free and resisted arrest.

Turner’s girlfriend told deputies they had been at the Owl’s Nest bar earlier and became engaged in a heated argument. She said that Turner became physically aggressive, throwing her against the refrigerator and punching her in the head.

Deputies noted the victim was bleeding along two fingers and had sustained redness and swelling around the right eye and a bruise to the right arm.

During transport, deputies note that Turner repeatedly struck his head against the glass divider in the patrol car. They report that he continued to resist when they were inside the jail, kicking one deputy in the leg.

Reports show that during processing Turner began to complain of severe head pain. He was transported to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital for medical attention, then released. Turner was then returned to the jail for incarceration.

Turner is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 13, 2011.
